Daily UI Challenges

This on-going project is my practice for UI visual design and UX design thinking. By redefining some popular app's pain points, I am able to rethink and redesign certain features of the app/web. Through this process, I can not only enhance my design skills but also deepen my insight into those successful giant companies.

- Credit Card Checkout UI

Thinking of checkout, it is one of the most tedious things that users need to do before completing the payment, inputting credit card information and switching between different payment methods are quite annoying. My redesign focuses on the following aspects:

  • Straightforward and clean UI design.
  • Simple and intuitive credit card input, including camera input with an image recognition feature.
  • Easy to switch between different payment methods.
  • Keep reusable information that users have inputted when they need to switch to another payment method, like name, billing address, contact number, etc.

- Airbnb Sign up UI Redesign

Signing up process can be fairly complicated and thus declines the rate of potential users. By looking at Airbnb app's sign up UI, there are a few identified pain points that I personally discovered when I was using the app:

  • When I need to login with the options that do not show on the big buttons ("Continue with xxx" and "create account"), I have to click the smaller icon "more options" in order to see the list of login options, which requires additional steps for users. The "more options" button is possible to be ignored compared with the other two big buttons.
  • The process of creating account requires users to click "next" button everytime when they complete input, and there is a really small bar that indicates the process.

My redesign solution:

  • Clear circled icons show the list of "more options", they seem to be more obvious for users to pick. The size and shape of these icons show the hierarchy.
  • Listing all required information into one page makes users know how many things are left, and reduces the action of clicking next.

- Porsche Landing page Redesign

Porsche, a symbol of luxury and performance in automobile world. My redesigned UI releases more energy that fits into Porsche's brand - luxurious and sporty. By using different font sizes, transparency, and font types, the importance of each information is sorted.

- Tripadvisor User Profile UI Redesign

Tripadvisor is a platform for users to find interesting local landmarks, restaurants, and travelling experience. I redesigned user profile UI for Tripadvisor with the following key factors:

  • Make the interface more aesthetical and appealing while keeping everything simple and clean.
  • Prioritize important information, like user name, location, numbers of following/ followers/ contributions.
  • Optimize the layout of the photo section, make a more vivid and structured photo album for users to showcase their stunning images during the trip.

By making user profile more personalized, users are more likely to consider Tripadvisor as a traveling forum for making friends and sharing experience, which will increase the interactivity between users as well as the adhesiveness of users.
